![]() TORT REFORMI recommend that the Federal Government and each of the several States require a filing fee of not less than one tenth of one per cent of the amount being sought in any tort action. I further recommend that awards be limited to the amount being sought plus filing fees, court costs, and reasonable attorney fees (rot to exceed 50% of the award except if the award is less than 1000 mour units (qv). In no circumstances should a defendant be ordered to pay legal fees to the plaintiff's attorneys in excess of twice the basic award. I firmly believe that our Government and our Courts need to be accorded respect and legitimacy. I am still alarmed that a jury in California actually believed that the fair compensatory value of Ron Goldman's life was more than thirty times greater than that of most people killed in airplane crashes. |
